Pune Police, in collaboration with the North East Community Organisation Pune (NECOP) and other Northeast state units, conducted an awareness and interactive program at Police HQ Shivaji, Pune on March 30.
A press release from NECOP and NSUP advisor and former president, S. K. Souriio Hitler stated that Pune Police Crime Branch sensitized North East youth employed in spas, salons and various work places in the city.
Bhanupratap Barge, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Pune, Crime Branch, pointed out that there was a demand for North Eastern girls in the spa business for several reasons, main among them being their resemblance to Thai people. According to him, in the spa business, customers prefer Thai spas and massages, and this demand has led many NE girls to look for lucrative incomes, initially from spa massaging to immoral professions like prostitution.
He also responded to various safety measure queries by listing out guidelines and he requested the participants to pass on this information and share police contacts with other North Easterners living in the city. The ACP also shared a few tips for safety of women. He also advised against engaging local people in fights or arguments on the spot but asked that these matters be reported to the police. He also strongly suggested that parents or guardians warn their dear ones to not trust anyone.
The ACP then introduced inspector Manisha Zende, senior police inspector of Social Security Cell as nodal officer for North East people, who may be contacted at phone number +91-9881128129.
The Police department also assured North Eastern people in Pune of all possible help even in the days to come.
