In a significant crackdown, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar arrested two individuals, Sukhchain Singh and Jugraj Singh, for their involvement in cross-border arms smuggling and recovered a total of eight weapons, police announced on Friday.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that, based on specific intelligence, the suspects were intercepted while transporting illegal arms from Pakistan-based smuggler Noor. He shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the seized weapons included three Glock 9mm pistols, four Px5 pistols, and one .30 bore pistol.
An FIR has been registered in Amritsar, and ongoing investigations aim to identify additional handlers and uncover the full scope of the smuggling network.
In related efforts, the previous day, Amritsar police busted two international drug trafficking rings, arresting six smugglers, including a woman, and seizing four kilograms of heroin. Initial investigations revealed that one module was operated by suspect Sevenbir, who maintains direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers under the guise of livestock trade.
The police also linked Jasbir Kaur to the cartel headed by notorious smuggler Ranjeet, alias Cheeta, noting her ongoing contact with smugglers in India and across the border.
On Thursday, authorities dismantled another cross-border weapons smuggling module connected to Pakistan, arresting two operatives, Surajpal Singh and Arshdeep Singh, and recovering six highly sophisticated pistols.
Yadav explained that Surajpal Singh was in direct contact with Pakistan-based handlers Rana and Sikander, who used drones to drop arms and ammunition consignments into India.
