In a significant breakthrough ahead of Independence Day, Punjab Police have thwarted a major terror plot allegedly orchestrated by Pakistan’s ISI-backed terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda. Two operatives of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) module were arrested, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Harpreet Singh alias Preet, from Bhullar village in Tarn Taran, and Gulshan Singh alias Nandu, from Rampura village in Amritsar. Police recovered two 86P hand grenades, a 9MM pistol, and five cartridges from their possession.
This development follows the recent arrest of five BKI operatives — including three juveniles — from Rajasthan’s Tonk and Jaipur districts, where authorities seized another 86P hand grenade and a .30 bore pistol.
Preliminary investigations suggest the accused were acting under the instructions of foreign-based handlers located in Britain, the United States, and Europe. The duo was allegedly planning attacks on government buildings and police establishments to destabilize peace in the border state.
Assistant Inspector General (Ferozepur) Gursewak Singh Brar stated that the arrests were made following a Counter Intelligence operation based on human intelligence inputs. The suspects were apprehended in Talwandi Bhai, Ferozepur.
Police have secured remand of the accused, and further interrogation is expected to uncover additional details about their network and intended targets. A case has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act at Fazilka police station.
Investigations are ongoing to trace deeper linkages and prevent any further threats to public safety.
