Pongren Village Suro Pümji (PVSP) has vehemently condemned the alleged “physical torture” by 14 IR personnel on August 22 at Kiphire village junction, “for parking his truck on the roadside.”
In a condemnation note, PVSP president C. Athsenba Sangtam and general secretary Mutsangtang said “the brutal beating to the point of unconsciousness”of one “Atsoba T. Sangtam of Pongren village” was in violation of the constitutional rights and various provisions of the law.
“It is very unfortunate to say that the very persons whom we thought are here for our protection are acting like thugs by taking law into their hand”, Pongren Village Suro Pümji stated.
It also appealed to the law enforcing agencies to leave no stone unturned and ensure that perpetrators of such a crime were brought to justice without any delay as per the law of the land.
Pointing out that such cruelty cannot be justified in any manner, Pongren Village Suro Pümji urged upon the responsible authority to expedite the case and deliver justice to the victim and his family.
