PWD (NH) initiates emergency road repair works in Dimapur

Staff Reporter

With the condition of several arterial roads in Dimapur, deteriorating by the day, particularly the stretch from Dillai Gate to Golaghat Road and also Midland to Dhobinala junction, PWD (National Highways) Dimapur division has started temporary repair work on NH-36 stretch from Dillai Gate area.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, PWD (NH) Dimapur division SDO said that, after taking note of the deteriorated road condition, the department held a meeting in Kohima on November 1 and decided to take up “temporary emergency repair”. He also sought cooperation of the public during the period.
He also clarified that the decision to undertake road repair on temporary basis was made even before the ultimatum was served on the department by eight Dimapur-based village councils and 10 colony councils.
In the ultimatum addressed to the PWD (National Highways) chief engineer, the village councils, including Sengjum, Rilan, Indisen, Lengrijan, Aoyimkum, Kacharigaon, Kashiram, industrial village Razuphe and colony councils of Industrial Estate, Hill View, Oriental, Aokong, Duncan Basti, Supply, Landmark, PWD, Forest and Midland threatened to take their own course of action and agitate unless the deplorable NH-36 stretch was repaired.
Meanwhile, the SDO said the repair work was a stopgap measure since the department had already submitted a proposal for maintenance work to the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoRTH), but was yet to receive any response.
As reported earlier in Nagaland Post on several occasions, MoRTH had on February 2, 2021 awarded the work to M/s Kampung Kamyer Trading Co for construction of the road on the given stretch. However, the contract was terminated on July 27, 2022 due to violation of contract agreement by the contractor, who has also been blacklisted.
Considering the urgency, the SDO said the Ministry approved the re-tendering process, which was underway.
It was learnt that the notice inviting e-tender (re-tender) was issued by PWD (NH) in September for development of existing two-lane pavement, including strengthening of NH-36 from 160/000 km to 166/880 km on EPC mode.
The proposal was made in August this year and the bid due date was October 14. But, due to some issues, the tendering process was delayed and was now expected to be finalised soon.
