New Delhi, Aug 17 (Agencies): Customers in Qatar can now send money directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India through a new remittance service, offering a digital payment route for cross-border transfers between the two countries.
The PosTransfer service, powered by UPI, was launched on August 15 through a collaboration between Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP) and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), a ET report stated.
Customers can initiate a transfer at participating Qatar Post outlets by providing the recipient’s UPI ID and required identification details. The recipient must activate the facility for receiving foreign inward remittances through their UPI app.
Transfers can range from QAR 10 to QAR 4,000 per transaction, subject to a maximum equivalent of Rs.1 lakh. A flat service fee of QAR 15 is charged per transaction.
The service provides a remittance channel for the large Indian community in Qatar to send money to families in India, linking Qatar’s postal network with India’s UPI infrastructure.
Sandeep Kumar, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of India in Qatar, visited the Qatar Post outlet at LuLu Mall in Doha on August 15 and interacted with stakeholders.

Kumar said the Qatar-India remittance corridor was an important milestone in bilateral cooperation in digital financial services and welcomed the initiative as a channel for the Indian community to send funds to their families in India.
India Post is also working with postal operators in other countries to launch additional PosTransfer-powered-by-UPI corridors for cross-border remittances.
