Quota issue: State govt invites nomination of members to RRC

DIMAPUR, AUG 18 (NPN)

Following its decision to constitute a Reservation Review Commission (RRC), the state government has requested Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) and Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN) to nominate “a credible and qualified person” from the communities they represent to be a member in the commission.
Taking note of objection to the nomination of members to RRC by 5 Tribes CoRRP, the government has clarified that CSOs were to nominate “a credible and qualified person” from the communities they represent and not office bearers of CSO.
The government stated that this decision was arrived at to ensure that the opinion of the respective communities, who were the most important stakeholders, was suitably taken into account in the assessment and future applicability of the reservation policy in the state.
State government maintained that nomination of the stakeholders was sought as it was felt that such a vital issue should not be decided by the government alone.
In light of the above, state chief secretary Sentiyanger Imchen has requested CoRRP to reconsider their position on the composition of the job reservation commission to ensure that the commission could submit a comprehensive and inclusive report.
