Rainbow Colony inaugurated in Dimapur

Rainbow Colony, Khatkhati Road, Dimapur was inaugurated Saturday, by SDO (C) Sadar Dimapur, N Zubenthung Ngullie as special guest at Holy Child School auditorium hall. 

The programme highlighted unveiling of monolith by the special guest which was dedicated by LBC, Dimapur pastor Zanao Mozhui. 

Speaking at the inaugural programme, special guest congratulated the colony and wished them the best in its endeavour. He also reminded the colony members that through the support and cooperation of the neighbouring colonies they have been successfully recognized.  N Zubenthung Ngullie encouraged them to respect one another and extend cooperation even in the days to come.

Asserting on the paradigm shift created by COVID-19, for people everywhere, Zubenthung cautioned the gathering to adhere to the government SOPs. Furthermore, he also encouraged the council members to continue to create awareness within the colonies. 

Brief report of the colony was presented by Rainbow Colony secretary, Dr Stephen Lotha wherein he mentioned that earlier the present Rainbow Colony was under the council of United North block-B ward No. 3, Burma Camp, but with the increase of population and with its large portion having boundaries with Assam, it was found that a separate colony was a must to protect the land and settle minor issues for peaceful coexistence with the neighbouring state. 

According to the record, in the year 2009, the residents of the colony held a general meeting under the leadership of Akum Ezung and sacrificed for a separate recognised colony. In the meeting the house unanimously supported for a separate recognised colony and approved for the formation of adhoc council headed by Akum Ezung as chairman to initiate and pursue to the civil administration for separate recognized colony. In regard to naming of the colony, Lotha said that in one of the elders meeting of the colony, it was resolved that whoever donates land for the colony council hall, the colony would be named after him. Late Rainbow Ezung, the then deputy speaker of NLA, as the first settler in the year 1967, had donated the land for the present colony council hall. In this regard, the colony has been christened as Rainbow Colony. 

In the year 2019, a new team of colony council was formed under the leadership of Philip Tungoe with the sole object to pursue for recognition of the colony. Signature campaign was launched for a separate recognized colony wherein 260 households extended their approval and support. With this, he informed that the colony council approached the United North Block-B Council and Niu Colony for no objection paper agreed upon by both the councils. The deputy commissioner after receiving the application then recognised the colony as Rainbow Colony. 

Short speeches were also delivered by executive member Rolland Ngullie, GB Nyamo Tungoe, GB Vikiho Achumi and family members of late Rainbow Ezung. 

Programme was chaired by Rainbow Colony vice chairman, Dr Chisoi Chakhesang, welcome address by Rainbow Colony chairman S Philip Tungoe and vote of thanks delivered by executive member, Augustine M Yanthan.
