Rains leave trail of destruction in various districts of Nagaland

Incessant monsoon rains which had been battering the state for the past several days have caused widespread destruction across various districts of Nagaland.
In a press statement, commissioner & secretary Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), home department Lhouchalie Viya stated that the department had received some reports of damages to houses, roads, bridges, breast wall of roads, paddy fields and jhum cultivations.
In Kohima, a major land sinking was reported near Kisama Heritage village besides a major landslide along Kigwema-Mima-Chakhabama road. A major retaining wall also collapsed at Phesama village.
In Tuensang district, landslide was reported at Phingjang ward, Tuensang town. Road blockages at Tobu road below Tuensang village was also reported. Also, due to windstorm, an Anganwadi centre was damaged at Phir Ahir village under Longkhim sub-division.
In Kiphire district, continuous rains caused landslide and blocked road between Khongiri village and Mimi and Luther villages. Another landslide was reported between 02 Junction and Pungro Town. Landslide incident was also reported at Singrep village. Damages to agricultural fields were also reported from Moya village and Pungro village.
NSDMA informed that VG office guard room was damaged by landslide in Meluri district. There were also reports of damaged to paddy fields along Araju River in Reguri Village due to over flowing of the river. A retaining wall collapsed at Wutsi Colony affecting a residential house.
In Noklak district, road blockades were reported along Noklak-Chingmei-Tuensang road, Noklak-Pangsha road, Panso-Tuensang road and Panso via Kusong road, Noklak-Tsuwao village road, Panso-Saddle-Tuensang road.
Several maize fields were also reportedly damaged by windstorm and torrential rains at Chassir village under Shamator district.
A major landslide also occurred on Shamator and Kiphire road.
In Mokokchung district, a retaining wall collapsed causing damaged to one residential house at Mongsenbai Ward. Report was also received from Luyong Ward under Mangkolemba sub-division that a retaining wall collapsed which also affected nearby footpath and three residential houses.
In Wokha district, several electric poles have been uprooted due to cyclonic windstorm causing power supply interruption. A landslide incident occurred at Tribal Circuit Doyang affecting the office Reception and Cafeteria building.
In Zunheboto district, landslide incident was reported from Atoizu sub-division.
In Peren district, road blockages were reported between Vamsi Akilesh and New Ngaulong.
Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority has appealed to all District Disaster Management Authorities to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon season.
