Ralan Area Lothat Hoho (RALH) has expressed its resentment against the decision of the state government for the withdrawal of the IRB personnel stationed along the Disturbed Area Belt (DAB).
In a statement, RALH chairman Hayithung Kikon and secretary CS Ovung pointed out that the Assam government had failed to comply with the agreement to withdraw some forces from the Disturbed Area Belt after it was resolved during the recent meeting of Nagaland and Assam Director General of Police (DGP) at Guwahati.
RALH said out of the two IRB companies, Nagaland government withdrew one as agreed during the meeting of the DGPs.
However, it said “Assam government as usual had been playing its old tricks by withdrawing three Assam Armed Police camp stations in the interior area of the DAB only to reinforce them in the remaining nine camps station near the Lotha Naga village in the DAB”.
In this regard, RALH reminded the state government of the 1979 agreement and its subsequent fallout. It said in 1979, Nagaland government willingly withdrew all its forces from the DAB, whereas Assam government failed to comply. This allowed Assam government to push in tens of thousands of illegal immigrants and thousands of people questionable origin in the DAB under Ralan area, it said.
While cautioning the Nagaland government not to commit such blunder, RALH demanded that if the states forces were to be withdrawn, “both states should withdraw its forces completely/totally from the DAB.”
In the event Assam government fails to withdraw its forces, RALH appealed Nagaland government to setup equal number of Nagaland police post adjacent to AAP post/camp.
