Ralan Area Students’ Union (RASU) has directed immediate cessation of illegal stone quarrying and mining activities at Tuchanpen village under Ralan area in Wokha district.
In a statement, RASU president Tsenbemo Ovung and general secretary Vungathung Ovung said such activities were being carried out in violation of environmental laws and regulations, causing environmental damage, endangering public safety and disturbing ecological balance.
The union informed that it had earlier issued a notice on April 6, 2026 directing the concerned to stop the activities. However, it said the activities continued despite the warning.
RASU has now directed all individuals or groups involved to cease operations within 48 hours from issuance of the notice.
It warned that failure to comply within the stipulated time would compel the union to take its own course of action against the defaulters and that it would not be held responsible for any consequences arising thereof.
The union stated that the notice was issued in the interest of environmental protection, public safety and rule of law.
