DIMAPUR, JUL 29 (NPN): In a move to improve public safety and promote sustainable infrastructure, the Rotary Club of Dimapur (RCD) has installed a High Mast Solar Street Light at the busy Murgi Patti–G.S. Road Junction through a Rotary District Grant.
The junction, one of Dimapur’s busiest commercial intersections, had long suffered from inadequate lighting, raising safety concerns for pedestrians, commuters, motorists and nearby businesses.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, Rotary Club president Pradeep Goel said the project was undertaken to address poor visibility while promoting renewable energy. He noted that the solar powered system has enhanced nighttime visibility and reduced dependence on conventional electricity, making it an environmentally sustainable solution with long term benefits.
Goel said the project required months of planning and coordination with the Power Department and Dimapur Municipal Council. Despite technical challenges, the club remained committed to completing the work through close collaboration with the concerned departments.
The initiative was executed during Rotary Year 2025–26 under the leadership of then president Pankaj Kumar Jain and secretary Vivek Kumar Jain, with financial support from the Rotary District Grant and contributions from the club. The club also acknowledged the support of Past District Governor Chandu Agarwal for facilitating the grant.
Describing the installation as more than a public utility, Goel said the High Mast Solar Street Light symbolises Rotary’s commitment to “Service Above Self” by combining innovation, sustainability and community partnership to create a safer and greener public space. He added that the initiative reflects how collaborative local action can deliver lasting benefits to the community.
