KOHIMA, JUL 11 (NPN): A reception programme in honour of newly elected Naga National Council (NNC) vice president (HQ), Zapu o Zhasa, was held at Kigwema Village Council Hall on Saturday.
In his address, Zhasa expressed gratitude to the NNC leadership, members and national workers for reposing their trust in him. He said he was humbled by the confidence placed in him and pledged to discharge his responsibilities with dedication, while seeking continued support of the organisation in advancing its objectives.
Reflecting on his early association with the Naga national movement, Zhasa recalled being inspired as a young boy by the late Neilhounyü Yhokha of Kigwema village, who was closely associated with A.Z. Phizo. He said Phizo’s stay in Kigwema profoundly influenced him and inspired his commitment to the movement. Zhasa attributed his election to the values of truthfulness, honesty and courage upheld by the people of Kigwema, affirming that he would remain guided by the aspirations and collective vision of the Naga people.
NNC Central Executive Committee member Zapuvisie Lhousa said the Naga national movement was born out of the desire to safeguard identity, dignity and the right to determine the future. He stressed that while opinions may differ, the commitment to preserving Naga history and identity must remain unwavering.
Speaking on the theme “Nationalism in My Perspective,” Gaon Bura and former KVC chairman Vikhwe Kiso urged the people to uphold the truth inherited from forefathers despite divisions and attempts to dilute the essence of the Naga nation. He called for unity, wisdom and steadfastness in identity.
Short speeches were also delivered by Angami Region Council NNC president Zhale Nakhro and NNC Tatar Sato Gwirie.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by AYO social and cultural secretary Mezhüvi Thorie, invocation by Rev. Mekhale Yhoshü, pastor KBC Kigwema, while Seyiekole Bio presented a special number. The vote of thanks was proposed by KVC vice chairman Thinozelhou Neihu.
