All participating state teams for the Red Run 3.0 arrived in Nagaland on Wednesday and activities began with team registration, medical verification, and a series of briefing and orientation sessions.
The Red Run 3.0 is being organised by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), in collaboration with the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) and the Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA), under the aegis of the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, aims to raise awareness on HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), promote healthy lifestyles, and encourage youth and communities to participate in collective action for health and well-being.
Officials from NACO and NSACS, along with representatives from the Nagaland Olympic and Athletics Associations, conducted detailed briefings for participants, covering event guidelines, safety measures, and competition protocols. The distribution of kits and Red Run T-shirts also took place as part of the pre-event preparation. Athletes were also taken to check the route and get acquainted with the lanes before the marathon.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), I. Meren Chenth, briefed the volunteers and security personnel on the traffic and safety arrangements for the event. He informed that traffic restrictions will be imposed along the marathon route to ensure the safety of the runners. Approximately 30 traffic personnel and 180 volunteers, including students from St. Joseph’s University, Tetso College and local volunteer group will be deployed throughout the event. The DCP (Traffic) emphasized the importance of coordination and teamwork to ensure the marathon’s smooth conduct, reflecting positively on the state. Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA) Honorary Treasurer Neingulie Nakhro described the Red Run 3.0 as “historic” national event for Nagaland, with participation from athletes and officials representing 35 states and union territories. He mentioned that technical experts have been engaged to ensure professional conduct of the marathon, reflecting Nagaland’s growing capacity in both sports and event management. He emphasized that while the marathon serves as a platform for sporting excellence, its deeper purpose is to spread awareness on HIV and AIDS prevention, particularly among youth and athletes.
Several athletes arrived in advance to acclimatize to the weather and road conditions in preparation for the marathon event. The organisers expressed optimism that Red Run 3.0 will not only be a successful sporting event but also a significant step toward promoting health consciousness and a stigma-free society.
