Renewable Energy Day observed in state

Dimapur: Dimapur district today observed the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas- Renewable Energy Day 2008 at Town Hall, Dimapur with Maongwati Aier, Deputy Commissioner as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest termed Rajiv Gandhi as a youth icon and as one of the most dynamic leader. Rajiv Gandhi, said Maongwati, had a great vision for the young people of which renewable source of energy is one of the greatest innovations of the late leader, he added. Having foreseen that non-renewable will cease one day, Rajiv Gandhi encouraged the people to work on the renewable source of energy and today, reminded the chief guest, India is doing great job in this field.
The day was also marked by Marathon race, painting competition and essay writing competition. More than 20 educational institutions took part in the day long programme, which was organized by the district administration and DRDA. Special songs were also presented by the students of Greenwood Higher Secondary School and Delhi Public School. The welcome address was delivered by Solomon Awomi, DNSU President while the vote of thanks was proposed by Principal, GHSS, Dimapur.
