Renewable Energy Day observed in state

Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas, (Renewable Energy Day) was celebrated at Mon with Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mon Neposo Theluo as the Chief Guest at Council hall.
Expressing concern over the Global warming and climatic changes due to emission of carbon dioxide, chief guest said if only three percent of Indian population were to use solar cookers than it would save 3.2 Million tones of wood every year and reduce emission of carbon dioxide by 6.7 million tones per year. Samuel Konyak, the Naga Idol Finalist 2007 entertained the audience with special numbers. Temjensangla, EAC Mon declared the result of the competitions and the Chief Guest gave away the prizes to the winners. Vote of thanks was proposed by Project Officer, Theyiesituo Kuotsu and the welcome address was pronounced by the chairperson Hiazu Meru, SDO Civil, Mon sadar.
Altogether 13 (Thirteen) schools under Mon Town participated in the competitions. The essence of such public activities is to generate mass awareness and disseminate information about the advancement made in the renewable energy technologies from Biogas to Biomass to Solar, Hydro and wind energy.First prize was bagged by Shoktong of Model School, 2nd by. Honom of St. Mary School and the 3rd by. Manon of GHSS. In girls category Nyamshan of DBS, Monyu of Konjong School and. Wonsham of St. John School got First, Second and Third respectively. Free T. Shirt on Renewable Energy was also distributed to the participants. Earlier, the Chief Guest flag off the race and later he exhorted the students to participate with enthusiasm in the various competitions and also highlighted the importance of the event at the helipad.
In Extempore Speech, Konang Bangmei of Konjong, Wangying of St. Mary and Rekha of Noel School bagged 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. In Group Singing competition St. Mary, St. John and Edith Douglas Schools bagged the Prizes respectively.
Painting was held at Don Bosco School. It was divided into three categories: Sub-Junior (Class I-III) Junior (Class IV-VI) and senior (class VII-VIII). Sub-junior was bagged by Shatijung of DBS, Phongnyei of Angjong School and Mankem of Christ King School. The junior Catagory was bagged by Khampa of Edith Douglas, Nyamnyei of St. John and Chenlei of Angjung School. The senior category was bagged by Phongnyei of Konjong, P. Moba of St. John and Methlung of Little Flower School.The senior category (Class XI and above) was bagged by Nyamwang, Chingwang and Rishikesh Kumar all from GHSS. The junior category (class VIII-X) was bagged by Heihying of St. Mary, Purkumzuk of Noel and Daniel of Konjong School.
