Rental agreements must ensure ILP compliance: DNSU

DIMAPUR, JUL 27 (NPN)

Raising alarm over the threat of rising influx of immigrants, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has made a strong appeal to the public, particularly landowners in Dimapur, to exercise utmost caution and responsibility in rental agreements.
In a statement, DNSU president Hinoto P Aomi and general secretary Michael Kath also appealed all tribal units to prepare for immediate assistance in safeguarding the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system.
DNSU reiterated its firm stance against renting properties to illegal immigrants, cautioning that such actions posed a significant threat to the unique identity and land rights of Naga people.
The union also called for prompt and immediate action from all landowners to desist from giving properties and lands on rent without proper and thorough verification of tenants. DNSU emphasised that this was not merely a suggestion, but a critical imperative to prevent the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants which directly undermined the demographic integrity and traditional landholding systems of Naga people.
It also urged landowners to prioritise the long-term security and cultural preservation of Nagaland over short-term financial gains. It also called upon the public to identify landowners giving lands to immigrants without proper verifications by reach out to authorities or the union through mobile numbers 7005876566 and 6009812596.
DNSU said that towards strengthening community participation and oversight, all tribal units under its jurisdiction are to be ready with 100 volunteers each. DNSU explained that these volunteers would be dedicated to prepare and assess the ground situation concerning the ILP at any point of time.
Furthermore, DNSU said these units would be ready to assist the government and relevant authorities in their efforts to effectively implement and enforce the ILP regulations, ensuring the protection of the state’s borders and safety of public.
The union expressed the belief that collective vigilance and coordinated efforts were essential to address the pressing challenges posed by unregulated immigration and to protect the distinct heritage of the Naga people.
It also strongly urged the government to establish a dedicated cell specifically for the ILP. They pointed out that such a cell would streamline processes, enhance enforcement capabilities, and provide a focused approach to monitoring and controlling the influx of individuals, further strengthening the safeguarding of Naga identity and land rights.
DNSU said this dedicated unit would serve as a vital resource for both citizens and authorities in maintaining the integrity of the ILP system.
Further DNSU warned that the public of Nagaland, particularly the students, would be forced to initiate their own course of action if the government failed to strongly implement ILP for the protection of land.
