Reopening of schools uncertain: PD School Edn

With over 4000 parents that took part in the recent survey to seek opinion on re-opening of schools, principal director Department of School Education (DoSE) Shanavas C said that the department received a mixed response from the parents.

However, majority of parents were not in favour of the schools reopening now in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most were of the opinion to reopen schools only in January next year.

With COVID-19 spike across the state, Shanavas also said that they were not certain when to open the schools. For this, he said the department will be holding monthly reviews to ascertain the ground situation. He said that online classes will continue as usual.

He also informed that the department has decided to open a ‘control room’ similar to the COVID war room where the directorate will monitor teachers’ diaries, activities of students etc.

For classes 10 and 12, he said an alternate mechanism would be worked out since the students would require an evaluation before being promoted.
