
Assam Rifles, the oldest of paramilitary force of India, has been conducting a number of civic action programs to improve its relations with local people and in the interest of helping the civilian population. Following are some reports of their activities.
Assam Rifles motivational lecture in Phek: Phek Battalion of Assam Rifles conducted a “motivational lecture on admission to Sainik School, Punglwa” in Phek on December 29.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), the aim of the event was to motivate candidates undergoing coaching classes and also to address any problems they may be facing. Phek Battalion has been conducting coaching classes since September 2018 for All India Sainik School Entrance Examination (AISSEE) scheduled on January 6, 2019. Eight students & eight parents from Phek town attended the program.
Chieswema Battalion distributes hearing aids: Chieswema Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) distributed 12 Hearing Aids among the local population at Chiephobozou, Pfutsero, Zeizou and Chakabama Villages on December 28.
A press release from the Assam Rifles PRO stated that the aim of the event was to provide assistance to differently abled people of these areas who do not have access to medical treatment and cannot afford hearing aids.
AR free medical camp at L/Shengha: Mon battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted a free health care check-up for Langsa Care Home (Orphanage Centre), Lempong/Shengha, under Mon district on December 26.
According to PRO, HQ IGAR (N), the aim of the medical camp was to provide free medical treatment and check up to children of Langsa Care Home who are devoid of requisite medical facilities. The medical team that conducted the medical camp was headed by 2IC CMO, Kamlesh Kumar, along with a medical staff comprising of nursing assistants and technicians. A total of 31 children along with five caretakers from the Care Home attended the camp. All the children were administered free health check-ups and requisite medicines by the CMO of Assam Rifles.
AR free medical camp in New Thewati: Phek battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted a free medical check up camp at New Thewati village, under Phek district on November 20.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), the aim of the medical camp was to provide medical check up and treatment to the local populace of New Thewati and neighbouring villages. Medicines were provided to the ailing patients. The medical team also visited the house of elderly people who were too weak to attend the medical camp. Basic awareness on epidemic diseases and its precautions was also taught. 85 residents including 29 male, 21 female and 35 children attended the camp.
AR First Aid & Hygiene lecture: Chieswema battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised a lecture on “First Aid and Hygiene” at Government Middle School, Chakbama on November 19.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO), in his lecture-&-demonstration, covered various first aid procedures. He also enthused the students on the need for awareness in administering first aid, which could be a life saving initiative during emergencies. Issues pertaining to personal hygiene, sanitation, causes of different lifestyle diseases, and routine activities to maintain a healthy life were also covered. 45 children and five teaching staff attended the lecture.
AR workshop on government schemes: Medziphema battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North), organised an awareness workshop on existing “Central Government Schemes” for residents of Medziphema on November 19.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), the aim of organising the workshop was to disseminate information to villagers, students and women of Medziphema on the welfare schemes promulgated by the Government of India pertaining to women empowerment, education, health benefits and the various insurance cover for farmers. Information on the various nodal agencies at district level was also covered. 124 residents comprising 37 males, 80 females and seven children attended the program.
AR interacts with functionaries at Cob Tang: Wokha battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised an interaction session with the local residents of Tang on November 18.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), issues on employment opportunities, infrastructure development and education of children were comprehensively discussed expecting a viable outcome. Functionaries from Tanganyu, Phomching, Wetting Longsen and Youching village participated in the interactive session.
AR interacts with orphanage children: Kohima Battalion of Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North), organized a get together with students of Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home on November 17 as a small gesture to express solidarity and encouragement.
According to Assam Rifles, a weapons display was organized to motivate students to join the security forces. A movie “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’’ was also screened for the entertainment of the children at Kenguruse Cinema hall, Kohima garrison. Thirty five students attended the event.
Interaction with village community in Wokha: 28 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 5 Sector Assam Rifles and HQ IGAR (North) held an interaction with village GBs and chairmen of Wokha district program at Battalion Headquarters Wokha on November 20.
According to Assam Rifles, a total of 22 GBs/chairmen participated in the interaction. The aim of the interaction program was to familiarize the villagers with various opportunities for youth in the security forces.
The meeting focused on bridging the gap between security forces and village traditional bodies through mutual interaction and cooperation to bring peace and harmony in the region.
The battalion assured the villagers of its complete help to address problems faced by the villagers and create a better place to live in. Commandant 28 Assam Rifles, Wokha, Col. Hiren Borah, took part in the discussion hour and thanked all participants for their cooperation.
