Kejanglwa Village Council (KVC) under Peren district has urged the State government to reserve all Grade IV posts at all department offices falling under the village’s jurisdiction for land owners of the village.
KVC chairman Namrachang Hegui, secretary Hiareu Ndang and head GB Hubagwang Hegui in a press release said the state government had signed an MoU for establishment of Peren headquarter model township with land owners of the village on July 3, 2006.
Accordingly, land measuring 510.62 acres was acquired from Kejanglwa by the government, which agreed to pay compensation in second instalment on or before March 31, 2010 to the land owners.
The sale deed agreement signed on October 30, 2009 was executed, but they alleged that the compensation for the acquired land had not been paid to the owners. However, they pointed out that the village continued to honour and respect the agreement and allowed the offices to function smoothly till date, though their conscience pricked considering the illegal occupation of land by the government.
They said they had submitted representations to Peren deputy commissioner (DC) regarding the matter on May 21, 2015, June 4, 2016 and 14 June 2022, but lamented that their grievances had not been heard.
Thereafter, KVC in a general meeting on January 20 this year took a unanimous decision on the matter, which was reaffirmed on May 26 on the occasion of the Village Foundation Day that since the land owners had not been compensated, all Grade IV posts at all department offices under the village’s jurisdiction should be reserved for the land owners. Cautioning that the village would resort to any democratic form of agitation, or even to the extent of shutting offices of erring departments ignoring the sentiments of legal owners of the land, they appealed to the government to initiate appropriate steps to redress their genuine grievance.
