Residents undertake road repair work in Dimapur

Residents of Dhobinala, Zeliangrong village, here have taken up the task of repairing the damaged stretches of road by themselves as their pleas before authorities in this regard allegedly failed to elicit any positive response.

According to Zeliangrong village GBs– Namshilung and Rangau, the repairing of the road started with contributions, donations, etc., and that the people were determined to complete it with God’s grace as the colony’s road was connected to multiple colonies and played a vital role to ease traffic jam, adding it had never objected to anyone plying on colony’s road.

Despite being located in the heart of Dimapur, the council regretted that roads in the locality have been in a shoddy condition for decades. Even autorickshaws, which are the only mode of public transport for most residents, refuse to enter the colony citing bad roads, it added. The road was first blacktopped around 1994-95 after which it received “lipstick” carpeting under Dimapur Municipal Council’s initiative, which was washed away within a few months, they said. In this regard, the council took the initiative of road construction after collecting nearly Rs 15 lakh in cash from local residents– landowners as well as tenants – and traders.

The council issued an appeal to not let the people consider themselves as living in a stateless society.
