Resource teachers training gets underway

A three day Continued Rehabilitation Education (CRE) programme for resource teachers organized by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Nagaland in collaboration with Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Hearing Handicapped (AYJNIHH), Mumbai, got underway today at Life Spring Corner, Dimapur, on the theme “Facilitating inclusive practices.”
Altogether, 60 resource persons who are working for disabled children in SSA Nagaland and head teachers of primary school are attending the inaugural programme.
Speaking at the function as the guest of honour, District Education Officer (DEO), Dimapur, R Amongla Jamir, said little was known on how to treat children with disability in the past. She however said now with the government of India’s initiative “we” have become more aware and could take benefits under various schemes and training centers.
Amongla pointed out that children with disability are not disabled but able with “special gift” and encouraged the gathering to convey the message that, though children with disability may be physically handicapped they are as normal as “we” are. Further, Amongla encouraged the teachers to remove social barrier between the children with disability and “normal children” and try to identify and deal with the challenges.
Amongla also encouraged the resource teachers to go the “extra mile” to help the children with disability because when “we” do not understand their problem “we” cannot help. Amongla said the teachers are fortunate to learn from the resource person from AYJNIHH Mumbai and lauded SSA and AYJNIHH Mumbai for the initiative to conduct such workshop.
The resource persons for the workshop are HOD Education AYJNIHH Mumbai, Dr. Varsha Gathoo, Director CSED Mumbai Shubhada Burde, Chairperson Sol’s ARC Mumbai Sonali Saini, and Deputy Director Training ADAPT Mumbai Deepshikha Mathur.
The gathering was enthralled by a song performed by Ajungla and Vikhili from Blind School, Dimapur.
Earlier in the programme, three days programme schedule was read out by HOD Education AYJNIHH Mumbai, Dr. Varsha Gathoo, and the welcome address was delivered by District IE Coordinator DMA, Dimapur, Tainla.
Deputy Mission Director in charge of IE SSA, Nagaland, Tali Jamir delivered the key note address and chaired the programme.
