Retaining wall collapse due to heavy rain in Kohima

KOHIMA, OCT 1 (NPN): Owing to heavy rain in the state capital Kohima on Thursday, a concrete retaining wall behind BSNL office, Jail Colony Kohima collapsed on Thursday afternoon. However, there were no casualties reported, while some motorbikes parked at the site were partially damaged.

According to an eye witness, the incident occurred around 1 p.m after incessant rain which had at least damaged five motorbikes parked at the site. 

One of the Jail Colony Panchayat representative said that the district administration and disaster management visited the site and took stock of the damage area. 

He also pointed out that the landslide may have occurred due to drainage system inside the office compound. 

He informed that the residents of the BSNL staff quarters were also evacuated in the evening for safety precautions.
