Bhopal, May 15 (IANS): A retired Bhopal district judge, Giribala Singh, and her advocate son Samarth Singh have been booked under dowry death and harassment for dowry charges following the suicide of 34-year-old Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging from a pipe on the terrace of her Bag Mugalia Extension home in Laharpur on Tuesday night. Assistant Police Commissioner Rajneesh Kashyap Kaul confirmed on Friday that an FIR was lodged at Katara Hills Police Station late Thursday against both accused, with police teams currently conducting raids at their residence and other potential hideouts, though both remain at large. Twisha, originally from Noida and an MBA graduate who had worked at a company in Delhi for several years, had married Samarth Singh just six months ago on December 12, 2025, after the couple met on a dating app. Her husband rushed her to AIIMS Hospital following the incident, where doctors pronounced her dead.
The action came after continuous protests by Twisha’s family, who alleged murder and destruction of evidence, claiming that Samarth and his mother fabricated a suicide to mislead investigators. Family members and relatives had been staging a sit-in protest outside Katara Hills Police Station for two days, and on Thursday gathered at the Women’s Police Station with placards demanding immediate action, also creating a commotion at the Commissioner’s office. Twisha’s brother Harshit Sharma, an Army officer, alleged that “the police are refraining from taking action due to the duo’s influence and clout,” pointing to Giribala Singh’s background as a retired district judge who served until February 2023 and her son’s position as a practising advocate at the District Court as possible reasons for the perceived delay in action.
