Review energy charges: AWUM

All Ward Union Mokokchung (AWUM) while terming the recent hiked in energy charges as “abnormal and incomprehensible”, has urged the responsible authority to review the above mentioned matter and revise the energy charges FY 2019- 20 in the interest of public welfare and service. 

In an open letter to engineer-in-chief department of power, and chairman, Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Commission, the AWUM president, R. Ayim Longkumer and secretary, Lanumeren stated that the new approved energy charge FY 2019-20, SPM Urban has been drastically increased from Rs. 4.65/- to Rs. 5.50/- per unit consumption as compared to the revised charges in the last three years. 
According to the union, in the past three years (2016-2019), there was a steady hike of 10 to 15 paisa per unit consumption, whereas in the recent hike (2019-2020) there was a sudden increase by 85 paisa per unit consumption. 
Meanwhile, the union expressed regret for their inability to attend the public hearing on Multi Year Tariff for determination of tariff for FY 2017-18 to 2019-2020 on March 5, 2019.
