Rising People’s Party (RPP) has demanded that the state government immediately revoke the appointment of one Abdul Kayum Talukdar as GB of New Market Dimapur, and termed the appointment of “ a non-indigenous person of doubtful ancestry” as GB as “nothing short of outrage”. In a statement, RPP described Talukdar’s appointment as “illegal and an insult to all Nagas” and affirmed that “there can be no “miya” GB in the state.”
RPP said Talukdar was now in the eye of a storm for his alleged involvement in an issue, in which Naga patta holders were allegedly threatened in Assam. By conferring Talukdar with GBship, it was a direct threat to identity of Nagas said RPP, adding that it came at a time when illegal immigration of IBIs into the state was “a time bomb posing the greatest threat to Naga identity”. RPP warned that unless the government revoked Talukdar’s appointment it could be “safely assumed” that the government was responsible for facilitating illegal immigration into the state.
Asserting that Talukdar, as a GB, was empowered to issue Residential Proof Certificates (RPC), RPP demanded to know as to how many such RPCs have been issued by Talukar to “people of doubtful ancestry.” In this regard, RPP urged Dimapur district administration to check all RPCs issued by Talukdar and declare all as null and void and cancel all subsequent birth certificates, driving licenses, and trade licenses issued to such persons with immediate effect.
RPP also wanted to know as to who or which authority had directed the appointment of Talukdar, and for which commissioner Nagaland should furnish the answer to the Nagas. RPP also urged upon various GB associations to remove Talukdar from their union membership.
Meanwhile, RPP reminded the people of Karbi Anglong to also realise that both Nagas and Karbis have “a common enemy.” It alleged that Assam government’s “insidious policy” of pushing and encouraging settlement of IBIs in Nagaland border areas was not only detrimental to the Nagas but also to the indigenous population of Karbi Anglong. RPP, therefore, appealed to both KAAC and Nagaland government to jointly tackle the issue before it was too late. As a regional party formed to protect the interests of Nagaland, RPP said it would leave no stone unturned to pursue the case till Talukdar was removed as GB.
