A day after laboratory test confirmed that there had been no adulteration of rice with plastic granules as alleged in a video that recently went viral on social media, but contained mixture of fortified rice with regular rice, commissioner of police (CP) Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo said the police were yet to officially receive the lab report from the department concerned.
As investigation was on, he said the police would first have to receive the report and only then the probe could proceed further.
He added that the police had come to learn about the lab results only through media reports.
While cautioning all to refrain from posting rumours/unauthenticated reports on social media that created confusion and fear among the people, Tetseo urged everyone to first lodge complaints through appropriate channel so that authorities concerned could take action.
CP had earlier remarked that there was more likelihood of adulteration being done by mixing low quality with high quality rice for making profits and not plastic rice as alleged.
Food safety principal secretary & commissioner Amardeep Singh Bhatia had in a statement on Monday said the report of State Public Health Laboratory (SPHL) food analyst indicated the presence of fortificants, confirming the rice sample as fortified rice.
In a bid to ensure nutritional security, the Centre had decided to scale up distribution of fortified rice and started its supply through Integrated Child Development Services and Mid Day Meal scheme from April this year.
The scheme was launched in Nagaland in May this year.
