Right time to implement ILP: GPRN/NSCN (Naga Unification)

DIMAPUR, JUN 2 (NPN)

The GPRN/NSCN (Naga Unification) has announced support to the state government’s efforts to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the three districts of Chümoukedima, Dimapur and Niuland.
In a statement, GPRN/NSCN (Naga Unification) kilo kilonser Huvito Yepthomi emphasised that as the issue encompassed every Naga and was of common public interest, all sections of the Nagas regardless of tribal lines, differences of ideologies and political affiliations should stand in solidarity with the state government in enforcing ILP.
He maintained that the ongoing political instability in Bangladesh had a profound negative impact on the geopolitics, especially in India, which witnessed a huge number of influx of illegal immigrants, with the North Eastern states being the worse affected.
According to Huvito, all the North Eastern states were witnessing an unbearable problem of illegal immigration since pre-independence era till date, with the current situation in Bangladesh only adding more fuel to the fire.
Pointing out that states like Tripura had been facing an unregulated growth of illegal immigrant population, less job opportunities for locals, cultural heritage and traditions being diluted, demographic change, etc, he cautioned that Nagaland too was not immune to it, already facing a lot of law and order problem like other states.
He said the government could have enacted laws to mitigate or address the issue of influx of illegal immigrants long ago, lamenting that indifferent attitude and blame game among the political parties contributing to booming of immigrant population in Nagaland.
He noted that the government had lately realised that immigrant influx on a daily basis could be a time bomb that could bring forth devastating consequences for the state, because most of these illegal immigrants were religiously motivated and highly radicalised.
He acknowledged that the state government had endeavoured several times to enforce or implement ILP in districts like Dimapur that were beyond the purview of ILP, but miserably failed owing to fierce opposition from the affected communities.
However, after rigorous and meticulous assessment of the magnitude of imminent disaster in near future, he said the Centre decided to curb the influx of illegal immigrants, asking all states to identify all of them within 30 days for deportation.
Hence, the kilo kilonser stressed that this was the right time and opportunity for the state government, which had political and moral support, and approval from all sections of Naga society, to give the last and final push to eradicate the menace of illegal Immigrant from the state forever.
