KOHIMA, JUL 27 (NPN): A delegation of the Kamrup Metropolitan Zila Sahitya Sabha (KMZSS), Assam, led by its president Prafulla Barman, called on Nagaland chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio at Sovima village, Chümoukedima, on Monday to discuss the revival of the historic Kohima Sahitya Sabha (KSS) and strengthening literary and cultural ties between the two states.
The delegation informed the chief minister that its visit was aimed at supporting the revival of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha and fostering long-term literary and cultural cooperation between Assam and Nagaland.
The delegation highlighted the historical significance of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha, noting that the founding president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha, Rev. Sahitya Charyya Padmanath Gohain Baruah, established the institution in Kohima in 1895 while serving there as a teacher.
It said the Kohima Sahitya Sabha is recognised as the first office of the Assam Sahitya Sabha and remains a symbol of the longstanding goodwill, mutual respect and literary ties shared between the people of Assam and Nagaland.
Welcoming the delegation, Rio appreciated the initiative to strengthen the enduring literary and cultural relationship between the two neighbouring states.
Reaffirming the importance of preserving the shared literary heritage, the chief minister assured the delegation that the state government would extend full support for the revival and development of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha and take appropriate steps to facilitate the proposed initiatives.
Rio also expressed the government’s commitment to promoting stronger friendship and sustained literary and cultural exchanges between Assam and Nagaland.
According to deputy director of art & culture, Teisovikuolie Therie, the visit marked an important step towards deepening inter-state cultural collaboration and honouring the region’s shared literary history.
