NDPP: Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has welcomed the mandate of the people of Nagaland in the Lok Sabha election and graciously acceptedtheir mandate.
In a statement, the party underscored that for a democracy to be strong, vibrant and successful, the people’s will to participate in the democratic process of electing leaders of their choice was paramount, and the people of Nagaland had ensured that democracy once again emerged victorious.
While every political party contested elections to win, the party acknowledged that there could be only one winner, and congratulated Supongmeren for his victory in the Lok Sabha election.
While wishing him the best, the party said it was also expected that as the lone representative of the Naga people, he would take forward the aspirations and voice of the people in the Parliament.
NDPP said that throughout the period of election it had carried out a dignified and matured campaign without maligning any party or candidate. However, it alleged that unfortunately this time the electoral battle was not just political, but also involved huge social and religious aspects that went against the fabrics of secularism.
The party also applauded Dr Chumben Murry for having bravely fought the election despite the numerous challenges throughout. It pointed out that his dexterity and determination should be taken as an example by the rank and file of the NDPP “as we revamp and reflect on the recent results of the elections”.
Further, the NDPP congratulated all party men and women who had selflessly worked from day one for the party and the candidate. The party expressed confidence that despite the inability to win this time, it would only serve as an impetus to all its rank and file to work harder with determination and grit.
According to the party, the chief minister and members of the NDPP Parliamentary Board also needed to be appreciated and congratulated for having led the battle despite challenges faced in every Assembly constituency.
“The Hon’ble Chief Minister needs to be specially commended for trying his best in convincing and clarifying issues raised in the public domain, especially on issues related to religion,” the statement emphasised.
The party expressed gratitude to all alliance partners and independents for the help and assistance, also placing on record its gratitude to BJP national president JP Nadda for having come to Nagaland to campaign for the consensus candidate.
Despite this setback, the NDPP assured continuing to remain committed to its promises of serving the people of Nagaland, encouraging party men and women to remain positive and steadfast as the party reflected and looked back at the Lok Sabha election, trying to rectify and strengthen those areas where its weakness lie.
With the elections to the urban local bodies (ULB) soon to be conducted, the party called upon the people to come forward and participate in the local body elections to ensure that they elected the right leaders who would take care of their towns and municipalities since they were getting this opportunity after a gap of 20 years.
Finally, the ruling party congratulated the Election Commission of India (ECI), the state’s Election Department, all agencies of the government and law enforcing agencies for conducting a peaceful and successful election despite facing monumental challenges, including the boycott call in large parts of the state.
Noting that all agencies had carried out their given responsibilities in a commendable manner and contributed in strengthening the democratic process, the party assured its fullest cooperation to the ECI and democratic institutions of the country in the collective aspirations of strengthening the foundations of democracy in the country.
It assured the people of Nagaland that its efforts towards the overall development and progress of the state would not waver, but rather it would work harder and with renewed commitment for the welfare of every citizen of Nagaland.
Former MP: Former Lok Sabha member, Tokheho Yepthomi conveyed heartiest congratulations to Supongmeren Jamir for his victory in the recently held Lok Sabha election.
In a statement, Tokheho said that people of Nagaland have spoken univocally by electing him as the next Member of Parliament. His victory from a national political party will carry much weightage in parliament whether in government or opposition, unlike that of political parties with a sole Member of Parliament.
He said Supongmeren’s victory is a first of many in Nagaland’s political history and hoped that he finds inspiration and courage to fulfill the aspirations of Nagaland.
“I hope and pray that he will endeavour to strive for the people of Nagaland no matter the odds. I am certain that the presence of our Lord Almighty will be his guiding light and for the people of Nagaland,” he stated.
Therie: Former NPCC president and ex-minister K Therie congratulated Congress candidate Supongmeren Jamir for the historic win and thanked the people of Nagaland for a decisive vote, adding that their inner voice was loud and clear.
Therie said the verdict is historic for defeating the opposition-less government and that the people had shown that they do not subscribe to the idea of Christian oppression.
“The people have proven that intimidation with power can be defied. The people also have shown that nothing can sway faith,” he said.
Therie also thanked the Congressmen and women for standing on the principles and with the ideology of the Congress party, despite being in the opposition for many years.
“You are the trunk of the Congress. I hope the victory will lead the people of Nagaland to a new chapter,” he said.
