A programme for launching of RNTCP’s Sputum Collection Centre at PHC Wozhuro, under Wokha district cum block-level community meeting for TB awareness was held at the PHC conference room on June 27.
Informing this in a release Rendemo Shitio, Communication Facilitator, RNTCP, said Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Wokha district, Dr. M.A. Ezung spoke on the importance of health care and asked the communities to avail the facilities provided, and make judicious use of health facilities and infrastructures for common good of all. He further exhorted the participant, especially the community leaders to ensure the preservation of health facilities already in place, and asked for participation of the community to ensure clean and sanitized environment for healthy living.
Earlier, the District TB Officer, Dr. Robin Mozhui, enlightened the participants about signs and symptoms of TB, free treatment facilities under the Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP), and the benefits of taking TB treatment under RNTCP. Speaking on the role of community leaders in combating Tuberculosis, he emphasized that TB is not just a medical problem but also a social problem which requires the attention of the opinion leaders, and invited the leaders to create awareness in their respective community to control the disease. Further, he said that the launching of the sputum collection centre in the Wozhuro PHC will pave a long way for the people of this block as it will lighten the burden of the patients in availing the services provided by RNTCP.
The opening of Sputum Collection Centre at Wozhuro block is part of the decentralization of TB diagnosis and treatment under RNTCP and will cater to the need of the people of the block which covers about four villages of Wokha district.
The meeting was attended by Village Chairmen, Gaon Buras, Church leaders and Women leaders, MO PHC Dr. Aben, Communication Facilitator (RNTCP) Rendemo Shitio and staffs from District TB Centre, Wokha.
