Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of Industries & Commerce, B Longkumer, said Avangkhu which is one of the designated Border Trade Centre (BTC) bordering Myanmar was till date not accessible by road because of rocky and difficult terrain which had made road cutting impossible.
However, due to persistent effort by the State government, he said the road was finally cut through to Avangkhu in 2014. He said that road cutting beyond Avangkhu has already started where around 7 kms has been completed and 3.5 km short to reach the Indo-Myanmar border.
B Longkumer said this after his recent visit to BTC at Avangkhu in Phek during led by the Commissioner and Secretary of Industries & Commerce, MK Mero, along with departmental officials including NIDC officials.
B Longkumer said the construction of Trade Center Complex is in process by Industries & Commerce Department to facilitate trade through Avangkhu.
It has informed that Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department has also earmarked a site for setting up animal inspection and quarantine centre in the area adding cement from the upgraded 150 TPD Wazeho Cement Factory was expected to resume the production soon.
Longkumer further said once the road passing through Myanmar is completed productions could be easily exported to Myanmar and other South East Asian destinations.
