Roadside safety lapses at Nagarjan Jn raise concerns

Staff Reporter

A major safety hazard has been observed at the bridge near Nagarjan Junction, where absence of proper fencing along an open drainage system is posing risk to commuters.
The stretch, which witnesses heavy traffic, runs alongside an uncovered drain with exposed pipelines. In several sections, protective barriers are either missing or inadequate, leaving a dangerous gap between the road and the drainage below.
This reporter observed that during peak hours, congestion increases the risk as vehicles pass through the narrow stretch in close proximity to the open drain.
Local commuters expressed concern that any vehicle moving at speed or losing control could fall into the drain, potentially leading to serious accidents.
Pedestrians are also vulnerable, as the walkway lacks adequate safety measures. The absence of fencing, warning signs and proper lighting further aggravates the situation, especially at night or during adverse weather.
Residents and commuters have urged authorities to install guardrails, cover the drainage where possible and improve overall road safety measures.
With increasing traffic, the unprotected stretch at Nagarjan Junction continues to pose a serious hazard.
