Taking into account the prevalence of Vector-Borne Diseases (VBDs) in the state with Dimapur district being the hotspot, SPO joint director, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) Nagaland, Dr Neisakho emphasised the important role of general public in controlling the spread of VBDs.
He was addressing a review meeting on preparedness on Malaria, Dengue, Japanese Encephalities (JE) and Chikungunya at the Conference Hall of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dimapur, Wednesday.
A press release by DPO CD-I/DSO Dimapur stated that Dr Neisakho pointed out that there has been prevalence of VBDs in the state with Dimapur district being the hotspot.
Pointing out the important role of general public in controlling the spread of VBDs, he urged them to ensure that there was no stagnant water and that their surroundings were kept clean and dry.
Dr Neisakho advised them to use insecticide treated nets, mosquito repellents, wear full sleeves and long pants and cover all water containers and tanks. He also asked them to get tested for malaria, dengue, JE in case of fever and headache.
Further, Dr Neisakho also emphasized the importance of source reduction by observing dry day at least once a week to ensure there was no breeding ground for mosquito larvae.
The programme chaired by DPO CD-I/DSO, Dr A Kavito Zhimomi was attended by Dr Temsu (Consultant, Sentinel Site), Dr Molung Jamir (Epidemiologist), state consultants, district consultant and MTS.
Meanwhile, the department has informed that awareness campaigns were being conducted at village, ward and colony level along with house-to-house visitation to check any fever cases. It informed that entomological surveys are also being conducted along with fogging at high-risk areas.
