DIMAPUR: Rongmei Pui Phwam Kohima (RPPK) celebrated its 25th anniversary, commemorating 25 years of service and commitment to the welfare of Rongmei women, at NRDS Hall, Nagabazar, Kohima, on October 24.
Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, Kohima Science College, Katasinliu Remmei, graced the occasion as chief guest, while president of the Rongmei Mothers’ Organisation Nagaland (RMO), Joysi Rongmei, attended as special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Katasinliu Remmei encouraged women to continue supporting and caring for one another, stressing that mutual care formed the foundation of a progressive and flourishing society.
She also underscored the importance of providing children with quality education and opportunities for skill development. Urging parents to encourage their children to dream big and pursue higher aspirations, she said young people should be motivated to strive beyond entry-level opportunities and work towards achieving their full potential.
Speaking on the occasion, Joysi Rongmei said that progress stemmed from the content of the heart. She expressed appreciation for the journey of RPPK and recalled its humble beginnings in 2001, when women came together to mobilise resources and support those in need. She encouraged members to continue working collectively and in unity, stating that no organisation or union could progress without a shared commitment and spirit of togetherness. RPPK was formed on July 18, 2001, in response to the hardships faced by people affected by the ceasefire-related conflict following the Motor Peace Rally in Senapati, Manipur. At that time, there was no organised platform representing Rongmei women. Recognising the need for a common forum, women of the community came together to form an organisation, which was later renamed Rongmei Pui Phwam Kohima.
Since its inception, the organisation has continued to work for the welfare and upliftment of women, marking 25 years of collective effort, service and solidarity.
As part of the celebration, members presented traditional songs of praise and cultural dances. Advisor, RPPK, Losa Phimu Gangmei presented a brief history of the organisation, while RPPK president Sarah Kamei delivered the welcome address. The programme began with an invocation by advisor, RPPK, Luchalu Kamei. The vote of thanks was proposed by secretary, RPPK, Lily Longmei, while the benediction was pronounced by Gaisinmei Jennifer Ruangmei.
The programme was chaired by media in-charge, RPPK, Chunjanglu Gracy.
