Rotary Club Dimapur, Rotary International District-3240, would be hosting the three-day, Rotary 26th District Conference “Hornbill” starting Friday at Urban Haat.
Around 1500 delegates from various parts of the country and participants from 79 clubs would be participating in the conference.
Addressing media persons, Thursday at Rotary centre, Midland, district governor RID-3240, Chandu Agarwal, said the club is hosting the conference in Dimapur, to showcase and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas to the outside world.
“Through this event, we want to present and show that Dimapur is a safe place and that the state has the potentiality of promoting tourism, if exposed to the outsiders”, he added.
Agarwal also said that during the event, cultural heritage of the various Naga traditions would be presented to the delegates coming from outside the state.
Apart from this, various local artists- Tetseo sisters, Alobo Naga, Abiogenesis (Moa and Aren) band, Chakhesang Naga group including ‘Dhwani’ a national band from Kolkata would be performing in the entertainment and cultural programmes.
Focus would also be laid on various flagship social projects of Rotary during the business sessions.
One of the important project- Rotary’s mission of making 100 percent literate by 2017 would be debated during the plenary session, Agarwal said.
Under the mission, Rotary India has formed India Literacy Mission and for which certain programme have been initiating across the country.
Agarwal, also disclosed that for this mission the Rotary International have certain programmes and commitment to the government of India to send one lakh children back to schools.
Agarwal further said that district administration including various agencies have extended fullest support and cooperation for the success of the conference.
The inaugural function of the conference would be graced by advisor Urban Development, S.I. Jamir.
The conference would be conducted under the chairmanship of Rotarian Dr. D.R. Sharma.
