Even as the incessant rain coupled with gusty winds dampened the festival spirits on the seventh and eighth day of the ongoing Hornbill Festival, the Heritage Village, Kisama roared back to life here on Saturday as thousands of tourists thronged the main arena.

According to Economics & Statistics officer Sedevizo Ziephru, December 9 witnessed attendance of 16210 tourists– 57 foreign tourists, 4369 domestic and 11784 local (Nagaland).

The highest inflow was recorded on December 3 with 18002 visitors– 423 foreign tourists, 5001 domestic and 12578 local. However, festival goers on Saturday faced a harrowing time due to heavy traffic jam. The beeline of vehicles to Kisama reached till PHQ junction, slowing travel time by at least three to four hours to reach the festival venue.
Vehicles moving towards Kohima town were reported to have been delayed by at le

ast one to two hours. Several vehicles on their way to Kisama were also seen making a u-turn after being hold up in the traffic.

A vendor at the festival site said it took close to four hours for her friends to reach her shop after they informed her that they were stuck in the traffic. Traffic at Kisama was also diverted and incoming vehicles were made to take a detour around the venue.
