Republican Party of India (A), a political party founded by B.R. Ambedkar in 1957, is all set to be launched in Nagaland in December 2018.
At a press conference at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur on Thursday, Mughato Aye, who was instated as state RPI (A) president on October 4 by Union minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment and national party president, Ramdas Athawale, said that RPI (A) was the best party for the Naga people because the party works for the welfare of SC, ST and minorities of the country. With the prevalence of caste system in India, different political parties played caste cards to gain political mileage, said Aye. However, RPI (A) being a secular party does not discriminate according to caste, creed, colour or religion, he added.
While pointing out that Naga youth were not politically literate, Aye called upon youth and women to join the party and fulfil their dreams and aspirations.
The party, he said, would target youth between the ages of 25-45. However, the party will also seek the blessings and wisdom of senior citizens.
He promised that the party will take up issues like bad roads and bridges, water supply, electricity etc.
Hitesh Deori, Assam RPI (A) president and chief convenor of NE said that the party will work for youth and women empowerment in the state. He also gave an assurance that the party will raise all important issues for the betterment of Nagaland.
RPI (A) mahila president, Diana said that political parties always talk about women empowerment but never deliver. She expressed hope that the RPI (A) will be able to uplift women and the poorer sections of society.
It may be mentioned here that the RPI (A), which is currently an alliance partner of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), was formed by B.R Ambedkar on October 3, 1957.
The party, which made its entry into the north eastern states in 2016, is already present in the state of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sikkim and Mizoram. The state unit of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland will be officially launched in December.
