RPP seeks NSF clarification over ILRC remark on non-Naga tribes

DIMAPUR, OCT 9 (NPN)

Rising People’s Party (RPP) reacted to the Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC) of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) which criticised the party (RPP) for referring to the four tribes (Kachari, Kuki, Garo and Mikir) as non-Naga indigenous tribes of Nagaland and further adding that “Nagas are the only indigenous people of Nagaland”.
In a press release, RPP pointed out that the state government itself officially justified the party’s stand that Kachari, Kuki, Garo, and Mikir tribes were “indeed” indigenous to Nagaland and were therefore entitled to obtain ST certificates and Indigenous Inhabitant Certificates (IICs). RPP said the government also admitted that 24 posts of police constables were reserved for those non-Naga indigenous tribes of Nagaland.
RPP shot back, alleging that the ILRC of NSF “guided by sheer arrogance had the audacity” to question it (RPP) on the issue of indigeneity of those 4 non-Naga tribes and even went to the extent of calling those tribes “migrants”.
Condemning what it described as “jingoistic stand” of the ILRC/NSF, the RPP has asked the NSF to nullify ILRC statement. The RPP hit back at ILRC saying it was “a mere committee” formed by NSF to check the implementation of ILP in the state.
RPP said that the “utterly incoherent stand” of ILRC not only created confusion but also portrayed Nagas in bad light. It accused ILRC of “trying to thrash” RPP on a non-issue in the print media adding it was “nothing but publicity seeking exercise.”
