DIMAPUR, AUG 9 (NPN): The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a landmark investment of Rs. 36,441 crore for the period 2026–27 to 2030–31 under the revamped Khelo India Scheme, marking one of the largest commitments towards strengthening India’s sporting ecosystem.
In a press release Sports Authority of India (SAI) Dimapur informed that the expanded scheme envisions making India’s sporting framework “8x bigger and 10x stronger,” with a structured pathway for athletes from grassroots to international excellence. The initiative will focus on grassroots development, talent identification, athlete development, quality coaching, sports science, competitions and modern infrastructure.
SAI Training Centres will play a pivotal role in identifying and nurturing young talent through structured training and exposure. Athletes will benefit from improved coaching, sports science, competitive opportunities, equipment and other advanced support systems. Special emphasis will be placed on increasing opportunities for women athletes, para-athletes and indigenous sports.
For the youth of the North-Eastern region, including Nagaland, the scheme provides a vital platform to pursue sporting ambitions and showcase talent at national and international levels.
The Rs. 36,441 crore investment reflects the Government’s commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive and future-ready sporting ecosystem. The initiative aims to create a new generation of sporting champions and position India as a global sporting powerhouse.
