RS Jamir passes away

Retired senior IPS officer Rongsenshilu Jamir passed away here on Thursday. He was 92, and survived by his wife, seven children and 11 grandchildren.
According to family sources, the funeral will be held on January 17 at Chekiye Village, at 2:30 p.m.
RS Jamir was the first Naga to be appointed as Inspector General of Police (IGP) on January 23, 1987.
Born to Aomeren Jamir and Pangjunglemla on February 8, 1932 at Longjang village in Mokokchung district, Rongsenshilu matriculated from Government High School, Kohima, passed Intermediate in Science from Cotton College, Guwahati and graduated in Arts from B Baruah College, Guwahati in 1960 and served as a superintendent at Lewis Memorial Hostel.
He began his career in Nagaland Police as deputy superintendent of police in 1964, was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service and inducted into the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1986.
He served in various capacities in his illustrious service, including as superintendent of police of Mokokchung, commandant and deputy inspector general (DIG), before becoming the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
