Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ), Rengma Village Council Chairman Forum (RVCCF), district administration and police conducted a join operation along the site of the ongoing National Highway 61 widening project.
A press release from president, RSZ, Kenneth Kath stated that the team, while appreciating the speedy progress of work at package 2, found some obstruction on the work site, particularly standing building and structures, and forwarded the finding to the administration and concerned department to issue eviction orders at the earliest.
The visiting team also appealed to all individuals who have been paid compensation within the project areas to voluntarily vacate the locations at the earliest to avoid legal action from the competent authority.
The release mentioned that the team was dismayed by the slow work progress at package 1 due to non availability of dumping sites, and the team requested all village councils and land owners within Henbenji and Tseminyu area to cooperate with the project implementing agencies. It also urged the concerned department and construction company to immediately coordinate with the village councils and land owners to identify dumping sites. It also requested all Rengma village councils and individual land owners to extend all possible help.
The union also cautioned both the construction company and department concerned that the stakeholders would not compromise with sub-grade quality workmanship and manipulation of project work.
The visiting team also contributed food grains to victims affected by the last monsoons where a vast tract of agricultural land was destroyed.
