RTI Week 2025 observed at Tseminyu

The Right to Information (RTI) Week 2025 was observed at the Town Hall, Tseminyu, on October 10, marking the district’s first-ever celebration of the national initiative.
According to a DIPR report, the programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Japheth Woch, who also delivered the welcome address. Expressing gratitude to the State Information Commission, Woch acknowledged the significance of hosting the event in Tseminyu and termed it a milestone for the district.
Chief Information Commissioner Kevisa Kense, IAS (Retd), delivered the keynote address, highlighting that RTI Week is observed annually on October 5.
He emphasized the core objective of the RTI Act 2005, which is to empower citizens by ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
Kense stated that the commission exists to safeguard public rights and address grievances, while government departments are mandated to provide requested information within the stipulated timeframe under the Act.
He urged departments to refrain from harassing applicants and appealed to NGOs to use the RTI mechanism responsibly, cautioning against the misuse of provisions or dissemination of misleading information.
State Information Commissioner Nosazol Charles presented a detailed PowerPoint session on the RTI framework and engaged in an interactive discussion with attendees. The event witnessed participation from students, government officials, Village Council Chairpersons (VCC), Village Development Boards (VDB), and representatives from various NGOs.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by State Information Commissioner T. Kekongchim Yimkiung, marking a successful and informative observance of RTI Week in the district.
