Nagaland observed the Right To Information (RTI) Week along with the rest of the country on October 6 through various awareness programs. Following are the DIPR reports from across the state.
Dimapur: Dimapur district celebrated RTI week at the DC’s Conference Hall, Dimapur under the theme “RTI & the role of citizen”.
Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur Sushil Kumar Patel, spoke about the importance of the Act and asked HoOs to be sincere in their duties and maintain transparency and accountability for good governance.
Earlier, a slide-show presentation on the RTI Act was presented by SDO (C) & APIO Dimapur, Kemciyile and a short documentary on RTI was also screened.
The program invocation was said by pastor, Covenant Baptist Church, Yabang Longkumer and was chaired by ADC & PIO Dimapur, Albert Ezung.
Zunheboto: Zunheboto district observed RTI week under the theme “RTI and the role of citizens” at conference hall, DC Office Zunheboto. Speaking at the function, DC Zunheboto, Shanavas C, said that everyone had the right to get information. “RTI is a good thing if we use it judiciously, RTI should be used in the right way and it should not hamper the government, rather it should aid the government” he stated.
A slide-show presentation on RTI was shown by SDO (Civil) Sadar, Ajit K. Ranjan. Later a film on “My Right, My Voice” was screened. Students from seven schools and colleges, teachers and NGOs attend the program. The program was chaired by Vekhoyi Chakhesang, PIO and ADC Zunheboto.
Mon: A celebration program of the RTI week from October 5 to 12 was held at Council hall Mon. The keynote address was given by SDPO Mon, Vrinda Shukla. She explained the role of RTI and its usage by citizens. The main objective of RTI is transparency and accountability, she said. Assistant Commissioner Mon, Dharam Raj gave a slide-show presentation and screened a film on RTI. Miss Mon 2018, Easter also spoke about the role of RTI in common society. The function was attended by District Administrative Officers, HoOs, NGOs, ward presidents and students from various schools. The function was chaired by EAC Mon (P), Iloilung Chuilo.
Wokha: RTI week was celebrated in Wokha at Conference Hall, DC Office Wokha. DC Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, while delivering the keynote address during the function, stated that the RTI Act aims to bring transparency and accountability in the functioning of the government, and if utilized in the right perspective it will make government functions more effective.
EAC Wokha, Arhomo Yanthan, while giving a slide-show presentation, emphasized on the objective of the Act where he stated that it intends to create a practical regime of Right to Information for citizens to secure transparency and accountability of public authorities, to contain corruption, and to create a statutory right to information in every citizen.
Later a short RTI film titled “My Right, My Voice” was screened.
