DIMAPUR: A four day short term training on “Manufacturing of Goods from Rubber” was conducted at the training hall of Development Association of Nagaland (DAN), Chekiye, from September 22 to 25. The programme was jointly organised by National Institute for Rubber Training (NIRT), Rubber Board, Kottayam, and the Rubber Board Regional Office, Dimapur.
The programme was inaugurated on September 22 by Priya Varma H, Director (Training), Rubber Board. Kuruvilla Cherian, Deputy Rubber Production Commissioner, Regional Office, Dimapur, delivered the welcome address, followed by felicitation by Tepunol Yore, District Project Officer, Department of Land Resources, Government of Nagaland.
Around 40 rubber growers and individuals interested in the rubber industry from different parts of Nagaland and Karbi Anglong participated in the training. Technical sessions were handled by K. N. Madhusoodanan, principal scientist, Rubber Research Institute of India, Kottayam, and Pradeepkumar P. Joy, Deputy Director (RIDT), NIRT, Kottayam. The sessions covered various aspects of rubber product manufacturing and value addition, providing participants with technical knowledge and practical insights relevant to rubber based product development.
At the concluding session on September 25, the welcome address was delivered by Kuruvilla Cherian, Dy. RPC, Rubber Board Regional Office, Dimapur. Apart from the resource persons, K. N. Madhusoodanan and Pradeepkumar P. Joy, other speakers included Kato Zhimomi (Village Chief, Viyito village and president of Viyito Rubber Producers Society), Zachariah Ezung (president, NMSB RPS, Baghty), and Benrilo Lotha (president, Nzhu RPS). Amar Boro, Assistant Development Officer, Rubber Board Regional Office, Dimapur, proposed the vote of thanks.
Certificates were distributed to trainees who successfully completed the programme. Organisers noted that this was the first time such a training programme on rubber goods manufacturing had been conducted in the North East.
