To address the escalating unemployment problem in the country and Nagaland, Advisor, Urban Development, S.I. Jamir said the education should be more job oriented rather than degrees alone.
He was speaking as chief guest at the “annual prize-giving ceremony” of Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School (PVHSS) managed by Bharat Sevashram Sangha at Pranab jubilee auditorium, Saturday.
Jamir said that in the past degrees were given much importance however with the passage of time the need for educated and skilled graduates has increased.
With the rise of literate people in the country as well as Nagaland, Jamir admitted that the State was facing unemployment problem and that it was not possible for the state government to accommodate all in the state service.
He therefore encouraged students to opt for job oriented courses which Jamir said would give them ample opportunities when they graduate and want to pursue their career.
Jamir also briefed the gathering on the life of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He also lauded the far sighted leaders who established PVHSS.
The Advisor said from a small humble school it has grown up to one of the prestigious schools not only in Dimapur but in the state while adding that he was satisfied with the performance of the institution.
The programme was also graced by Bharat Sevashram Sangha vice president and PVHSS chairman Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj as the guest of honour who also exhorted the gathering.
Short speech was delivered by PVHSS Dimapur principal, Monoj Bhattacharjee, headmaster PVHSS Dimapur, Lakshman Chandra Das. The gathering was enthralled with songs, rhymes, folk dance, recitation and prize distribution.
