BJP’s nominee and UDA consensus candidate for the lone Rajya Sabha seat, S Phangnon Konyak, was Thursday declared duly elected uncontested becoming the first woman to become Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland.
S Phangnon Konyak, who is also BJP Nagaland Mahila morcha president, was declared elected uncontested by the returning officer Khruohituonuo Rio, additional secretary, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), after the last hour for withdrawal of candidature on March 24, 2022.
In a press release, chief electoral officer (CEO) Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar, informed that only one nomination was received by the returning officer till the last date of nomination on March 21, 2022. The nomination paper was taken up for scrutiny on March 22, 2022 and found valid.
The election commission announced the schedule for holding biennial election to Rajya Sabha on March 7, 2022 and fixed March 31, 2022 as the date of poll.
