S. Supongmeren launces Asmita program in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, Mar 7 (NPN):

On the eve of International Women’s Day, Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir officially launched the promotional poster for the upcoming Asmita Program during a briefing held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Dimapur, on Saturday.
According to DIPR report, the Asmita Program—Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action—is a flagship initiative aimed at empowering women athletes and encouraging greater participation of girls in sports. The main event will be held at Greenwood School Grounds, Dimapur, on March 11, 2026, from the afternoon onwards.
Officials highlighted that the programme seeks to provide opportunities for women and young girls to showcase their athletic abilities while promoting grassroots participation. The sporting event will feature track competitions exclusively for women, including 100m and 200m sprints. Winners will receive cash prizes and medals, while merit and participation certificates will be distributed to encourage wider involvement.
The poster launch was attended by Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Zakabo V. Rotokha; District Youth Officer, K. Manikanta; Youth Resources Officer, Vineikholie; Executive Engineer PHED, Er. Bendangtola; EAC Imlijungla; and Executive Engineer Power Department, Er. Lhuvoyi, among others.
Speaking at the programme, DC Dimapur Dr. Chang and ADC Rotokha emphasised the importance of such initiatives in identifying and nurturing local sporting talent. Youth Resources Officer Vineikholie and District Youth Officer Manikanta also encouraged women and girls across the district to participate and display their sporting spirit.
The Asmita Program is part of a nationwide initiative supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, aimed at building a sustainable sports ecosystem for women and inspiring greater female participation in athletics.
