With an aim to create awareness and to educate people on various family planning methods through SAARTHI- awareness on wheels activity, an awareness on family planning was carried out in Peren district which culminated on March 26.
A press release by the office of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Peren stated that Information Education and Communication (IEC) personnel along with Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) coordinators of Peren, Ahthibung, Jalukie and Tening blocks carried out the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and Interpersonal Communication Campaign (IPC).
CMO Peren said the target groups, namely lactating mothers, eligible couples and pregnant women were sensitised about health care facilities provided by the government.
They were also sensitised about the services and various schemes under family planning available in the Community Health Centres (CHCs), Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) and Sub-Centres across the district.
The awareness emphasised the birth spacing method of family planning, where a couple could decide the intervals of pregnancies and number of children they want by using temporary methods, such as use of condom, copper T insertion, and contraceptive pills. Beneficiaries were also informed that all family planning methods were available free of cost in all government health centres.
The team created awareness of the various family planning methods, distributed IEC leaflets on choices of family planning, provided counselling to eligible couples, distributed condoms and oral contraceptive pills.
