Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Chizami, commenced its Annual Sports and Games with the theme “Together Towards Excellence and Service”, on Monday.
The event was graced by District Education Officer Phek, Rentsamo Kikon, as the special guest, accompanied by colleagues Nuvesayi Hoshi and Hitsote.
The inaugural programme began with a prayer led by Akune Monica, followed by a prayer dance performed by students of Classes 4 and 5. Class 8 students presented the welcome song.
Fr. Vekupa Rhakho, Principal of the school, warmly welcomed the Special Guest, board members, parents, guardians, staff, and students. He highlighted the importance of the annual event in fostering unity and holistic development.
In his address, Kikon emphasized that sports and games are vital for overall growth, refreshing the mind, boosting fitness, enhancing immunity, reducing stress and improving focus, which in turn strengthens academic performance.
This year’s opening ceremony featured a Theme March by all four houses and Class 12 students, replacing the traditional march past. The performance captivated the audience, which included esteemed guests, board members, and parents.
The programme was emceed by Depe-u Vero, while Vikhru Domeh administered the oath-taking ceremony. Students of Class VI presented a choreography.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Vizokhonu Kulnu, after which the special guest officially declared the Annual Sports and Games 2026 open.
